What is a hang tag dieline?
A hang tag dieline is the vector template for a product, price or gift tag. It defines the red cut outline, the punched hole for string or ribbon, the blue bleed where artwork extends past the trim, and the gray safe margin that keeps text away from the edges.
What size should the hanging hole be?
A 3–6 mm (0.125–0.25 in) hole suits most string, elastic loops and ribbon. Place its center about 6–10 mm (0.25–0.4 in) from the top edge, and keep at least a couple of millimeters of material between the hole and the edge so it does not tear. Use a larger hole for thick ribbon or eyelets.
Which shapes can I make?
Rectangle, rounded rectangle, rounded-top (only the top corners curved) and arch (a domed top) — each with an adjustable corner radius where relevant. Combine any shape with a custom size and hole position to match your product or brand.
How much bleed and safe margin do hang tags need?
Use a 0.125 in (3 mm) bleed and a matching safe margin. Hang tags are usually printed on thick card stock and die-cut, so extend your background to the bleed line and keep logos and text inside the safe line — and clear of the hole.
Will it print and cut at the correct real-world size?
Yes. The SVG exports with real physical dimensions (inches or millimeters) and a matching coordinate system, so it opens at 1:1 scale in Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity, Silhouette Studio, Cricut Design Space and print RIPs. Put your artwork on its own layer and align it to the cut line.
