What is the Dieline to 3D Fold tool?
It is an online tool that turns a flat packaging dieline into a 3D model. A dieline is the flat, unfolded blueprint of a box, carton, greeting card or other package — the outline the printer cuts and the lines where it folds. You upload that SVG dieline, and the tool rebuilds it as an interactive 3D shape in your browser so you can fold it up, wrap your printed artwork around it, and see what the finished package will really look like — no CAD, Blender or 3D experience needed. When you are happy, you can download it as a 3D model (GLB) or a picture (PNG). In short: flat vector dieline in, foldable 3D package mockup out.
What file does the fold tool need?
An SVG dieline that has a layer (group) named cuts for the outline and holes, and a layer named creases for the fold lines. Every template from the Dieline Generator already exports this structure, so a card box, book cover, greeting card or carton drops straight in. You can also make your own in Illustrator or Inkscape as long as the layers are named correctly.
How do I fold it?
The model always starts flat. Select a fold line — click it in the 3D view, or tick it in the Fold list — then drag the Angle slider or hit a quick shortcut (90°, −90°, Flat) to rotate it. Select several (or click All) to fold multiple creases together, and use Flip to switch a mountain fold to a valley fold. Nothing folds automatically, so you assemble the package exactly how you want.
Can I add my own artwork?
Yes. Upload an exterior and an interior image. The exterior image is mapped as one continuous print across the whole flat net, so your design stays aligned across every panel when the box is folded — just like a real printed sheet. Set the material thickness to give the board real depth, and tweak the board and edge colors for the look you want. The model is lit with clean, even white lighting so your artwork reads true to print.
What can I export?
Export a downloadable GLB 3D model in the current folded state — ready for Blender, three.js, Google Model Viewer, PowerPoint, Spline or any glTF viewer. You can also grab a quick PNG snapshot of the viewport for mockups and presentations, or export a rigged GLB if you want to keep animating the folds afterwards.
What is the "Rigged GLB (armature)" export?
The standard GLB is a static mesh baked in its current pose. The Rigged GLB adds an armature — one bone per panel, connected in the same hinge hierarchy as the tool — so you can re-open, re-fold and animate the creases in Blender or any glTF app instead of the model being frozen. The mesh is skinned to those bones (panels move rigidly, fold seams stay watertight) and exported at real-world scale. When you import a rigged file, Blender creates a small helper collection called glTF_not_exported with an icosphere — that is just Blender's bone-display shape, not part of your model, and it is safe to delete. Rigged export is a PRO feature.
My dieline did not fold correctly — why?
The panels are detected automatically by splitting the cut outline along the crease lines, so the crease lines must reach the edges they divide. If a fold is missing, make sure each crease line touches the outline (or another crease) at both ends and lives on the creases layer. Bleed, safe and dimension layers are ignored. Files from the SVG.design Dieline Generator are already set up correctly.
